Zakura has proposed giving every ZEC swap through NEAR Intents its own viewing key. The goal is to prevent a public refund address from exposing a user’s wider payment history to future quantum computers. Spending keys would remain with users, while private information retrieval would help wallets find refunds without revealing which addresses they check. Compatible wallets could adopt the open-source feature within weeks, ahead of a January target for quantum-resistant Zcash payments.

A package of XRP Ledger bug fixes is set to take effect around 09:34 UTC on Oct. 23 after clearing the 29 validator votes needed for approval. The patch repairs code tied to a proposed uncollateralized lending system that remains inactive, with its lending and vault amendments sitting at 19 and 21 votes. It also closes a permissions loophole that could let certain accounts create tokens they were only cleared to destroy.

Crypto projects lost $1.18 billion to hacks in Q3, a 55% jump from the prior quarter, according to a blockchain security firm. About $900 million of those losses traced to compromised suppliers, developer tools, uninstalled fixes or components left outside security reviews. The firm warned that audit badges can create a false sense of security because reviews often omit wallets, signing systems and third-party software that attackers target. The findings suggest investors should look beyond audit logos and examine operational security.

An Anthropic AI model traced five unexplained seeds for NIST elliptic curves to an ordinary random-number generator using 1997 and 1998 timestamps. The result, produced in under 30 minutes, makes a hidden NSA backdoor less likely and requires no action from users of the NIST curves. Bitcoin was never affected because it relies on secp256k1, a different curve with little room to conceal a weakness. The longer-term quantum threat to Bitcoin remains separate and unresolved.

Google's Willow chip reduced errors in preparing magic states by about 40-fold, a key resource for advanced quantum calculations. The experiment achieved 99.99% fidelity among states that passed inspection, though only about 8% of preparation attempts succeeded. The result does not make a bitcoin attack 40 times cheaper, but it advances an engineering method that could matter for future quantum machines.

Anthropic has accused Alibaba-affiliated operators of using nearly 25,000 fraudulent accounts to extract capabilities from its Claude AI models. The alleged campaign, spanning April 22 to June 5, generated more than 28.8 million exchanges with Claude. Anthropic described it as the largest known attack of its kind and said it involved distillation, a technique that can let rivals replicate advanced model behavior at lower cost. The allegation raises broader concerns about model extraction, supply-chain security, and vendor controls as enterprises adopt generative AI.

Google has launched Agent Compute Engine, a service that suspends idle AI agents and restores them on demand while preserving execution state. The company says hardware-isolated microVMs can cut costs and improve isolation for long-running agents. Analysts warn that vendor lock-in, storage costs, and checkpointing complexity could offset some savings.
